OUR AMISH NEIGHBORS

The Town of Odon is in the center of one of the largest settlements of the Amish and conservative Mennonite people in the Midwest.  You are welcome along the miles of picturesque farm road to observe the well-kept gardens, horse drawn buggies, and horse teams at work in the fields. You are sure to receive a friendly wave and reception at the scattered small home businesses that surround Odon. Amish run restaurants and business such as our local lumber yard create an easy sharing among neighbors.

If auctions are what you like then be sure to come and visit the Dinky's Auction Center. Located half way between Odon Highway 58 and Cannelburg Highway 50 on County Road 900 East in the heart of Southern Indiana's Amish country.

Interested in Amish tours? Check out the new Green Gables Bed & Breakfast. They offer spacious living space as well as outdoor entrances to each room for the ultimate in seclusion and privacy. They offer a free hearty country breakfast to start your day and when, where, and the types of food you're served is entirely up to you! And when you feel like staying in to relax and curl up with a good book, they have a library on the main floor connected to a spacious and breezy deck that surrounds the entire home.

They also offer Amish Farm Tours where you can tour an actual Amish farm, see all the farm animals and see a very different way of life.  You can also tour the world's largest commercial Amish bakery Graber's Kountry Korner. Located next door to the Bed & Breakfast, they can arrange a tour of any part of the facility, and you will be able to see cinnamon rolls made from scratch, homemade bread, and watch noodles being manufactured like you've never seen before. Ever wonder what it would be like to eat in an Amish home? They can even arrange an Amish Supper just for you. You may want to engage in relaxing conversation, a brief walk around the farm, or simply wait to be served the most delicious meal you have ever enjoyed.

ORDINANCES

Town Pride: We have an ordinance which encourages and enforces keeping your property up to basic community standards in the areas of trash cleanup, clearing of junk cars, and other debris. Another ordinance requires that each resident maintain any existing sidewalk on their property boundaries so that others can safely pass. While the town employees are charged with noting and enforcing violators, only all of us working together can keep our town in a shape that all can be proud of! Please work together to both keep your own property well and to encourage your neighbors to do the same. Violators of any ordinance will be fined!
